Fortnite Solo/duos/squad Tips!!

 SOLO
  1. Choose your landing spot wisely as it'll set the precedent for the rest of the match. Go for a highly populated area and it'll lead to more fights, but with a greater chance of getting decent loot. Picking a quieter spot will increase your chances of survival early on, but you'll need to seek out enemies and plan your looting route carefully if you want to thrive in the late game. You can find some great options in our guide to choosing the best place to land.

  2. Every time you find a loot chest, make sure you try and memorise the location of it for next time. You want to be able to pin down your gear as quickly as possible in every match.
  3. Don't neglect ammo boxes! It's vital that you always have a steady supply of ammunition.
  4. Make sure you're always harvesting materials. Whenever you're travelling between destinations, or if you've got a little down-time on your hands, make sure you're chopping trees or clanking cars.
  5. Never underestimate the importance of building resources. Trees, pallets, boulders and cars are decent sources of wood, brick and metal.
  6. Try and be patient when you're facing enemies. We know it's difficult not to panic when you spot someone, but it's important that you keep a level head and figure out what you can do to put yourself in the best possible position and win the duel.
  7. Getting the high ground is easily one of the best things you can do in this game. If anything, you'll want to establish this advantage over your opponents in every fight.
  8. If you've run out of ammo with your primary weapon when shooting an enemy, try swapping to a secondary weapon to finish them off. Otherwise, find some cover before reloading as you'll be vulnerable for a small period of time - just enough for the enemy to claim the advantage.
  9. We highly recommend deciding how you're going to play around the impending Storm. If you're new to the game, you should either chase the circle as it closes in and constantly play around the edge. Otherwise, you can choose to take the initiative and find a good position before the Storm Cloud begins closing in, as this'll force people to face you in a disadvantageous position.
  10. Constantly listen out for the sound of footsteps when you're looting a building or out in the open. It can be difficult to completely pinpoint where the enemy is, but at the very least you should be bere...

Duos

Landing

  1. It's important that you communicate which location you'd like to target. Focus on a particular building and aim to either head for the same spot and land together, or split up a little so you aren't fighting over the same loot.
  2. So long as you've landed in the same vicinity, ensure you've said what supplies you've picked up, and call for back-up if there are any enemies in the area. It's imperative that you act and react quickly when cracking open chests, or responding to a teammate's plea for help.

Fighting

  1. If you suddenly spot some enemies, or if you're in a pinch - call it out. Remember, communication is absolutely vital when playing with an ally.
  2. Another common mistake is to be too descriptive when telling your ally where the enemy is located. Just keep it really simple: consult the compass, what direction are they heading? Anything of interest nearby?
  3. When you're in the fight, it's a good idea to try and spray down the same opponent. Call out which enemy you're targeting and shoot them down. The same goes for structures too.
  4. Of course, you can't prepare for every aspect of a fight, so it's all about thinking together on the fly and working out the best course of action. If it makes more sense to flank, then have one of you sneak around the enemy. If it makes more sense to get the high-ground, build a structure together to overlook your opponent.
  5. It's all about making the most of the fact you can coordinate as a duo. Always think about how you'd approach the situation now that there's two of you.
  6. Finally, take into account that - more often than not - you'll have to face two enemies. If you've knocked someone down, prepare to face their ally and be aware for any sneaky flanks they might be cooking up.

Reviving

  1. We're keeping this one short and sweet.
  2. If you know that you've got time, go for the revive. Be prepared, however, to ditch your mate if the situation's looking dire and play for yourself from there. Happen to win the fight? That's the time to check if you've got a moment to get your friend back on their feet.
  3. Before you go for the revive, it's also worth constructing a basic set of walls around yourselves. This'll provide some much needed protection from enemies either still in the area, or players who happen to be passing by.

Building

  1. Make sure you're both harvesting as many materials as you can. Whether that be chopping down trees when moving between points on the map, or gathering resources from fallen enemies.
  2. Again, communicate with each other when building forts and ensure you're both on the same page. As long as you've both got enough resources to hand, you can build some pretty amazing structures!
  3. It's also worth calling out how many materials you've got. This means that you've always got tabs on when you're ally is running low so you can back them up if they suddenly run out.
  4. If you're not sure where to start with forts, take a look at our base building design ideas page. It'll have you knocking together basic shelters in no time.

Positioning

  1. We recommend keeping a little distance between each other when looting, fighting and travelling. This'll reduce the chance of you both getting taken out at the same time and open up greater opportunities to outmaneuver the enemy in the process.
  2. Being creative and flanking to your destination, or simply keeping a little distance between the pair of you, forces the enemy to face two separate threats instead of one. This is far tougher to handle and makes enemies more prone to making mistakes under pressure as well.

Sharing

  1. Sharing is caring, so make sure you're helping out your teammates by topping them up with any excess stuff you've scavenged. Keep each other informed of how much ammo you're sporting and, crucially, how many healing items you've both got to hand.
  2. Your inventories are flexible, so don't hesitate to swap or share equipment if one of you isn't quite as well-looted as the other!

Squad

  1. Communication is key. When you spot enemies around you, relay information through the compass and keep description to a nice minimum. What direction are they heading? Any points of interest nearby? Short and sweet is the best way if you want to avoid confusion.
  2. Try and make use of the time you have in the pre-game lobby. Discuss where you're going to land, if you're going to buddy up with another teammate and how you'd like to play the match - aggressively or passively.
  3. As you travel between points on the map, do your utmost to harvest as many building materials as possible. We can't stress this point enough!
  4. Trees, cars, boulders, pallets, anything. Just make sure your whole squad has a tonne of resources to hand as this'll open up so many more opportunities to gain a positional advantage over your enemies. Plus, you won't have to worry about running out of materials too often either.
  5. When you're looting, make sure you call out what you've picked up or left behind. Save healing items, ammunition and weapons for allies if they need them.
  6. While it's good to stick together, try and avoid running as one big clump. Instead, it's better to keep some distance between you all so you don't get mown down in one fell swoop.
  7. In a similar vein to the point above, always look for opportunities to flank the enemy as this'll force opposing teams into an uncomfortable course of action. It'll split their focus and force them to commit to the unknown. It's amazing how teams can crumble when they they're not entirely sure where their enemies are - or what they're getting up to.
  8. When building structures it's best to have just one or two squadmates doing so as this minimises confusion.
  9. If you're in a firefight and teammates are suddenly getting knocked down, it's best to play for yourself rather than rush to revive allies. Only go for revives if you're certain that it's safe to do so, otherwise you're just leaving yourself open to attack.
  10. It may seem ridiculously obvious, but remember that there are multiple enemies. If you've knocked down one opponent, be aware that the next enemy could be right around the corner.
  11. If you knock down an opponent and they're eliminated instantly without going down, then you know for sure that their squad has been wiped out.
